Nelsonville, Ohio, Chamber of Commerce

This map/brochure was created while working for The Athens News in cooperation with the Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce. During the process of creating the map, Hocking College and Rocky Outdoor Gear were added as partners. Additionally, when potential advertisers were shown early prototypes of the piece, advertising spaces sold out within a few hours of being offered. Advertisements for the piece were created by the entire News graphic design staff.

The piece presents itself as the viewer unfolds it:

Outside Cover

First, the viewer sees the cover, which then opens to show premium ad space.

First Unfold

Next, the piece opens to a map of Ohio showing Nelsonville’s location relative to major highways and cities.
Second Unfold The piece then unfolds to present a map of the region surrounding Nelsonville and showcasing other attractions in the area.

Inside Spread

The final, full inside spread includes a map of Nelsonville as well as detailed maps of Nelsonville Public Square, Buchtel, and Hocking College. Additionally, this spread contains a historical tour of the city and a list of sponsor businesses. Each map, from macro to micro, presents commons features (such as roads) in order to help the viewer maintain orientation as the level of detail increases.
