Product Guide & Map
ESCO
32 by 21.5 inches flat
8 by 10.75 inches finished

This project was created working with the team at Offenberger & White, along with the Singapore-based client. The piece unfolds into a 32” x 21.5” poster, and utilizes a unique folding scheme, suggested by the creative director, to appear as an eight-page laboratory equipment product guide. The product guide section unfolds in the same manner as a regularly bound book. However, lifting the corner of the last spread unfolds to reveal the product map, guiding the viewer through the complex product lineup.

I was the primary designer of this piece, using components of the existing identity system, including the icon system. Much of the product guide section was roughly based on the layout of an existing piece.

Exterior product guide, cover and spreads. The piece is actually one folded sheet, however, it is folded in such a way that the product guide section reads as if it were a standard bound booklet. Note that the lower-right corner has been rounded off of the pages 6-7 spread (lower right image). This is the last spread before the piece unfolds into the interior product map. This was a refinement I made to the folding concept, clarifying that the piece unfolds and additional content exists inside.

The interior product map began with an extremely complex, rough spreadsheet of all product models and features, compiled by a copywriter and the client. The map was designed with a particular emphasis on legibility, including making the rows and columns as easy to follow as possible, while displaying a high density of data. Numerous revisions were made to both design and content throughout this project, including by working directly with the client.
