Series, 4700 pages
Production, with John Robb of Robb & Associates, of a series of second-edition math textbooks aimed toward middle- and high-school students. Bridges to Algebra and Geometry consisted of student and teacher editions, each totaling 750 pages. The teacher’s annotated edition contained all of the material in the student edition plus the answers (set up as a fifth color) and supplemental front and back matter. My role in producing these books consisted of making numerous edits to the existing legacy files, working with the proofreader to ensure the accuracy of our work, producing electronic and paper proofs for the client to review, solving technical glitches discovered in the production process, and creating PDF files for the printer.
While working on Bridges, we completed two other book series, the student and teacher editions of Algebra 1 and Geometry (800 pages each). Unlike Bridges, the teacher editions for these books were wraparound editions. In a wraparound edition, the pages of the student edition are reduced to fit within pages of additional materials. This required extra steps in the production process, such as exporting the student edition pages as files and placing them, as well as placing, editing, and formatting the supplementary material in the wraparound. This process also introduced many technical glitches, which it was my job to work to overcome.
In addition to the textbooks, I assisted in the production of associated workbooks and promotional material. Another important role was in the production of the covers for the entire series of books, which included some design work. The majority of the work on this entire project was done in under three months, requiring me to work sixty to eighty hours per week, seven days a week.
